a boarding school in Connecticut

…which was not my home.

First if all, I did not eat.

I stole food from the dining hall at night and monopolized the Senior coffee and pastries.

I stayed at the girls’ school on Saturday nights and stole food from the other girls’ rooms.

I usually skipped breakfast and I skipped lunch because the boys were on campus and they ate in the dining hall.

I saw myself as a scholar. I was a dual English/Math ace, also science, but lost interest in science. I scored double 750’s on my SAT’s and realized that I would move on to another life.

I was a smoker. Of course, smoking was not permitted.

What I mostly remember was the terrible cold. That chill never really went off of me. It took married life and 2 years in California and 16 years in South Florida to get it off of me.
